From: The exhibition “Choosing Vincent. Portrait of a family history.”
Shortly after Vincent van Gogh’s death in 1890, his beloved brother Theo also died. His wife Jo van Gogh-Bonger is left devastated with their son Vincent. As a young widow, Jo faces an important choice: what should she do with the enormous collection of paintings, drawings, prints and letters from her brother-in-law and the collection of art by contemporaries that Theo and Vincent collected?
Jo decides to continue Theo’s dream of making Vincent’s work known. She has worked with great dedication throughout her life to preserve and disseminate Van Gogh’s work.
